This problem has a name which is black screen of death. There are mainly two reasons why this can happen. Firstly, it can be due to a hardware problem such as your screen is broken or damaged. In that case you should take it to an Apple Store.

How To Fix iPhone Black Screen

1. Hard Reset

Hard resetting iPhone will troubleshoot the black screen problem. Though it’s pretty much like the basic turning iPhone off but it will do a complete reset of the device. You won’t be losing any data, so there’s nothing to worry.

To hard reset/force restart your iPhone:

-Press and hold down the Sleep/Wake and Home button at the same time. 

-Wait till you see the Apple logo.

-After it turns on, your iPhone should have normal screen back.

2. Restore iPhone

Restoring from a backup can sometimes fix iPhone black screen. It means, in the process all your data and settings will be erased and then reinstalled again.

– Connect your iPhone to iTunes.

– Click on the iPhone icon.

– Click “Back Up now” in the backups section. It will create a backup of your data.

-When that’s done, click Restore Backup.

– Keep following the onscreen steps and select the backup you just created. Then again follow the onscreen instructions.

After a few minutes it should be done. And your phone will be back to normal.
