iPhone Won’t Turn Off

As magnificent as iPhones are, they do have their bad times. It’s a very common problem that many of us have faced. If it hangs up in the middle of an important task or if sometimes it just freezes what we do instantly is we turn it off. So that it restarts and works again. But what happens if you can’t turn it off? That’s what we will tell you. Keep on reading to know what to when when you cannot turn iPhone off.

What can cause this problem?

There are obviously some reasons behind this problem. It can happen for reasons, most likely because:

# Software problems/faulty apps causing it to freeze.

# Your Sleep/Wake button is broken.

#The screen isn’t responding to taps probably because it’s broken.

How To Fix It: Can’t Turn Off iPhone Solution

Here are the instructions you will have to follow in any case if your iPhone is not turning off:

1. Force/Hard Reset iPhone

This is the simplest way to shut down an iPhone that won’t turn off. Though it’s pretty much like the basic turning iPhone off but it will do a complete reset of the device. You won’t be losing any data, so there’s nothing to worry. But do this only if your phone will not restart in any other way.

To hard reset/force restart your iPhone:

-For iPhone 6 or older, Press and hold down the Sleep/Wake and Home button at the same time.

-For iPhone 7 series, do this by pressing and holding down Volume Down and Sleep/Wake together.

-This will make the screen go black. |It means your device is restarting. Once the apple logo appears let go of the buttons.

-If it’s iPhone 8 or later and iPhone X or later, press the volume up button once, then press the volume down button once. Press and hold the side button until the screen goes black. Keep holding the side button until the Apple logo appears.

2. AssistiveTouch

AssistiveTouch is a built-in feature in iPhones. It works as an alternative home button but on touch screen. If you cannot hard reset/force restart because any of your buttons such as the Sleep/Wake or Home button or Volume button is weak, use AssistiveTouch to turn your iPhone off.

If you don’t have Assistive touch turned on, Go to Settings General Accessibility. Tap AssitiveTouch from interaction section.

When you already have AssistiveTouch and it’s responding, this is what you do:

-Tap AssitiveTouch Home button.

– Then tap Device.

-Tap and hold Lock screen.

-The Power Off slider will apear. Slide it and turn your iPhone off.

3. Restoring From A Backup

Even after a hard reset of help with the AssistiveTouch, it’s not solved then maybe it’s a software problem. Restoring from a backup is the best solution for this situation. It means, in the process all your data and settings will be erased and then reinstalled again. Just a fresh start, It won’t solve all the problem but maybe it will solve some. Here’s what you have to do:

– Connect your iPhone to iTunes.

– Click on the iPhone icon.

– Click “Back Up now” in the backups section. It will create a backup of your data.

-When that’s done, click Restore Backup.

– Keep following the onscreen steps and select the backup you just created. Then again follow the onscreen instructions.

After a few minutes it should be done. And your phone will be back to normal.

Reset All Settings

This is a trick that everyone does not know. It might not work if your device is frozen. But if you are unable to turn your iPhone off because your Power/Home buttons are not working then this can be a solution.

Resetting it will not erase your data but will erase your preferences. And after that it will restart. So it’s an easy way to force restart your iPhone. To do this:

– Go to Settings> General> Reset.

– Tap “Reset All Settings”.

– Confirm it.

Now, wait a while. Your phone will reset and restart.

Lastly, Take Apple’s Help

If nothing worked, then there may be some serious issues. Go to an Apple Store and take their help. Before that, make sure to back up your data.
