Find UDID Number on locked iPhone

Every iOS device has a UDID number. If you own an iOS device, you may need to know the UDID. After all it has many uses. Usually, it’s easy for users to get their UDID numbers. But are you unable to get it because your device is locked? Don’t worry, we will tell you what to do.

Before we do that, do you really know what it is? and why is it important?

What Is A UDID Number?

UDID (Unique Device ID) is a feature of Apple’s iOS devices. It is a unique identifier for a single device that is fetched from Apple servers when a user tries to activate the device using iCloud or the Setup app. This ID is also used by iTunes to detect the phone or to communicate with it while restoring the iPSW firmware. (wikipedia)

It is actually kind of like a serial number. A 40 character thread of numbers-letters uniquely identifying a particular iPhone/iPad even iPod touches. It may look random to you but it’s based on different hardware specifications beyond general knowledge. Like an IMEI or Serial number, each Apple device has a unique UDID that represents only that device.

What’s it used for and why is it important?

It’s important specially for developers and beta testers. Since this number identifies a specific iOS device, it can be used in connecting related data to that device. Connecting developer accounts to the UDID number allows the device to install and test apps before original release. Apple also use this number to connect a device to it’s user’s Apple ID. This allows the device to get updated on installing/purchasing apps from App store or iTunes automatically. In the past, third party app developers also used UDIDs to collect data about users. But due to privacy concerns Apple does not allow it anymore.

Users who like to experiment with jailbreaking or installing iOS firmware/beta apps also need the UDID number in order to do so.

So, whatever your reason is, if your iPhone is locked and you are unable to get the UDID number, follow our guide below.
